PFF Meeting Review February 2025 (Celebrate!)

PFF Meeting Review February 2025 (Celebrate!)

Photograph by Ken

It was good to see so many of you at the first meeting of the year. A belated Happy New Year to all from Judith started the meeting and then we got into a discussion on the upcoming April trip out to take photos. But more of that later!

Theme Photos:   Celebrations

I had a pleasant surprise when many of you submitted photographs on the theme of Celebrations. It was good to see that you had interpreted the theme in a variety of ways, so we had a good selection to view and talk about. These ranged from Fireworks and Christmas and Bokeh lights in a wide variety of places to Heather’s personal celebration for capturing the “Blidworth Buzzard” in flight,  and even a celebratory Champagne bottle cork shooting off!  Andy explained in his three shots how he had achieved this. (Dedication and a lot of time in a cold garage!)

I’ll put some of these on the website later!

So well done all. If you haven’t submitted anything this time, then do have a go for next month. Remember that 3 is a good number to send on the Theme!

EPTAS

Every Picture Tells a Story gives members an opportunity to explain the photograph   which may be one of their own or one taken by someone else such as an iconic news item, or one by a famous photographer perhaps. This month we had one from Judith,  a rather chewed up Christmas card) one from Andy T, a large amount of money on a road, and four from Ken! These interesting shots in nature were from different countries and the last one depicted a snoozing Tuk Tuk driver!

Shots of the Month

We also had several of these to show.  Charles included some snowy scenes in his garden, Maureen included unusual fungi and Heather a selection of birds that complemented her submission in the Celebrations theme.  All very interesting and some great shots!

NOTE ABOUT APRIL:

We didn’t discuss this in detail but for our trip out we are thinking about the visit to Nottingham Arboretum. It might be easier to go in cars (we can car share from the Village hall), park in the Forest  car park, get on the tram and meet at the Arboretum. We can discuss the final details at the next meeting of course, and those wishing to travel by a different means can decide then.

Next Months Theme: People

This is such a wide theme which could include many different aspects. We did a theme in 2023 on Faces but this included animals, statues, other objects as well as people! This theme is just the human variety! Ranging from Portraits and Fashion to Sports and Travel there are lots of opportunities. However, I concentrated in my presentation on Street Photography as I thought this might be something we hadn’t done in a while. We saw a useful video about this here:

5 Street Photography Tips You MUST KNOW - Advice from a Photojournalist

The PDF of the presentation is attached (minus the video - hence the link) and it includes some previous slides of the different types of ‘people’ photos you could include this month as well as the Street Photography ideas. The choice is yours as long as it is Human!

Here are some of the links I found to do with this theme which you might like to read:

See what you can come up with this time. It doesn’t have to be street photography, but if you get the opportunity, have a go. Read the websites to get more help.

10 Minute Talk

We concluded our meeting after Andy’s 10-minute talk continuing from last month with a few more shots from his visit to Victoria Fall. There were some lovely shots, so well-done Andy.

See you next month,

Judith and Terry
