u3a Online Talks and Events – March 2026

Many Ravenshead u3a members may not be aware that, in addition to local groups and meetings, u3a also offers a rich programme of national online talks, courses and special events, open to all u3a members across the UK. These take place throughout the year and are delivered online via Zoom, meaning you can join in from the comfort of your own home.

The email u3a Online Talks and Events - March 2026 highlights just some of what is available in March, with something to appeal to a wide range of interests including history, music, science, faith, health, and current affairs. [u3a Online...March 2026 | Outlook]

What are u3a online events?

These events are organised by the u3a Learning Team and include:

  • One‑off talks and lectures

The March programme includes a wide variety of topics. A few examples from the email include:

An International Women’s Day event exploring the role and experiences of women across three different faith traditions.
  • London Thames Bridges

A fascinating illustrated talk by Brian Cookson, looking at London’s bridges from Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge, and discussing their history, design and engineering.
  • The Truth in Ten: the climate crisis and some solutions
    Friday 20 March at 2pm
Brenda Ainsley discusses the impacts of climate change at both local and global level, and explores practical ways individuals and communities can help create a better future.
  • Deafness and beyond: the tribulation and triumph of Ludwig van Beethoven
    Thursday 26 March at 2pm
An exploration by Chris Dowrick of how Beethoven’s personal struggles were transformed into some of the most profound music ever written.

Special event: British Women’s History Day

March also includes a special themed day, British Women’s History Day, taking place on Thursday 12 March. This online event features four separate talks across the day, and members can attend one session or all of them.

Topics include:

  • The Match Girls’ Strikes
  • The Lancashire witch trials
  • Katherine Swynford
  • Empress Matilda

This is a good example of the sort of high‑quality, themed events regularly offered through the national u3a online programme. [u3a Online...March 2026 | Outlook]

Looking ahead

The email also gives a flavour of what is already open for booking in April, including:

  • Laughter yoga
  • A talk on magic squares
  • A six‑session course on cryptic crosswords for beginners

This shows that the online programme includes both light‑hearted and more in‑depth learning opportunities. [u3a Online...March 2026 | Outlook]

Interest Groups Online (IGO)

In addition to talks and lectures, u3a also runs Interest Groups Online (IGO). These are ongoing online groups led by members and covering a wide range of subjects. New groups mentioned this month include Russian reading and conversation and opera appreciation. IGO allows members to meet regularly with like‑minded people from across the country, without the need to travel. [u3a Online...March 2026 | Outlook]
