Chris is a historian, graphic designer and conservation officer based in Nottingham. He has written, designed, exited and photographed for various local history and urban design publications.
His talk is based on his book: Model Villages of the Nottinghamshire Coalfield. Only traces of the Nottinghamshire coal-mining industry may remain, but the colliery villages have survived. Chris will explain how together they reflect the evolution of mining in the region and the ambition of the colliery companies who built them. The enterprise combined both profit and paternalism, affecting both the form and design.
