Review of the PFF MEETING October 2025 THEME: “Reflections”
We had a good turnout for our October meeting and welcomed Julie to the group for a ‘taster’ session. Unfortunately, Heather had to miss the meeting at short notice, but she had sent in photos for us to discuss. We commented on the success of the u3a day and may have a couple more potential members coming along in the new year.
Photos sent in: Reflections
This was a good theme with lots of great photos sent in. Well done. Members had to make a difficult choice perhaps in deciding which ones were their best three for us to look at! The theme was a good one but gave us lots of options. It also required some thought about composition and other technical aspects. We all enjoyed looking at and discussing the photographs and finding out more about them.
Shots of the Month
The shots shown took us abroad and nearer to home. Andy’s images of the Icelandic geological faults created an interest as did the couple being married near a waterfall! A twilight reflective shot from Andrew T was commended and is used as the cover shot for the photo album this month. Heather had a very effective ICM shot of Falmouth harbour and both Judith and Maureen showed some street shots of activities in Mansfield during “The Full Shabang” event recently.
Facebook Photos
In the next section of the meeting, we had a look at some clever ‘trick’ photos that Andrew had spotted on Facebook. These were either carefully posed and taken in-camera or used a composite method in software to construct using more than one image. It was appreciated by all that although not always a natural photo these were indeed clever concepts to have come up with to enable construction of the images. For example, a man walking a dog - painted on a wall, or a hand holding up a bridge with what looked like a coat hanger. There were some very clever ideas, but probably unlikely that we could achieve anything like them, but you never know as the opportunity might arise next time you are in Pisa! (Stop the tower from falling down!)
NEXT MONTHS THEME: November - Windows and Doors
We then looked at a presentation on our next theme of Windows and Doors. I had found a couple of good tutorial websites which separated the two items. Links here:

They are well worth reading through yourselves especially if you weren’t at the meeting. They gave us lots of ideas for our photos and ways to use the window (s) and / or door(s) in photos that you might take this month. The presentation is also attached as a PDF file so read through that first.
Finally
We had a look at a two minute video which showed one quick way of creating a border in Affinity Photo, I’m sure that PaintShop Pro and Photoshop would do this in a similar way if you have them. The link is here: How to Add a Border in Affinity Photo
