PFF meeting - July 2026 - "Here Comes the Sun"

Here Comes the Sun!

Our final meeting of the ‘term’ started with our theme of the month “Here Comes the Sun!” Members had been given the title, to interpret in any way they wished and we were not disappointed. We did comment that as June had been particularly sunny it had been difficult to get out to take photographs in the heat -30 degrees plus unless you were prepared to get up at 4 am which most of us were not! Some members searched their archives and found excellent sunrise and sunset photographs.

Others provided silhouettes, shadows, beach scenes, and cityscapes. We were also taken across the world to view holiday shots in Europe, Malaysia, and Australia.

Other unusual shots included one of the London Eye with a Starburst effect, a tryptic of a boat crossing a lake at sunset and one of a field of sun – flowers!

My Choice

Members are also encouraged to take alternative photos during the month or to submit a photo of their choice which has significance to them. Again, a wide variety were shown, including the latest Banksy Statue in London, from Andy B a great reflection shot from Judith, deserving the 'Harry Worth' award, as well as Andy T's picture of one of the Kelpies from an interesting viewpoint.

Towards the end of the meeting, we discussed next terms programme and themes for the year going into 2027. Members were asked to suggest themes that they might enjoy tackling themselves and that they would also be happy to research and lead in a short presentation session on the topic.

Our next meeting will be in September, and the group were shown a presentation of 28 Compositional Techniques. The September Theme is based on that, and members were asked to take three NEW photos to show three different techniques. The subject and location will be for them to decide!

The final discussion concluded that we would go out in October together for a ‘photoshoot’ at Newstead Abbey. We will hopefully have some interesting photos to discuss at the following meeting!
