Once again, the forecast was good for the second Wednesday of March 2026. 10 members of the group assembled at the Sherwood Ranger and shared cars for the relatively short journey to the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre car park at Edwinstowe. 3 more members were meeting the group there, in theory! However, it turned out that two of the members realised they were in the wrong car park, and expected we must have gone so took their own route.

The walk was gently undulating, mainly on good paths, with relatively little mud! We had a coffee stop before continuing on to Hazel Gap, where the path met the A616, a fairly main road. Just a few metres (yards) before the road were some logs which were deemed to be suitable for our lunch stop. A little noisy with traffic, but the best we could find! We continued on towards the Visitor Centre, reading the various information signs re naturism in the forest, as we went. There was some concern as to what the probability of meeting a 'naked rambler' would be. We soon found out! A little chilly, we thought, but clearly there are some hardy folk in Nottinghamshire!
We returned via the Major Oak, which added a little distance on to the walk, so, by the time we reached the Centre we had completed over 8 miles, probably nearer 9!
The RSPB Visitor Centre provided facilities for us before returning home.
Another enjoyable walk in good weather with good company.
