The fifth heatwave of the summer, we were led to believe, so the planned walk was changed to a closer, less strenuous walk. We had done a similar walk in previous years, the latest being 2022!

9 of us left the Cross Keys at Epperstone, and followed a series of field paths, tracks and roads through gently undulating countryside. We stopped to admire views and re-hydrate on several occasions and were able to find a shady spot for an early lunch break by the Thurgarton Sheepwash, dating back to the 17^th century and is the second oldest sheep wash in England.

The walk was just over 7 miles in total and took just over 3 hours; we were back before the heat of the day had really built up. We heard a cuckoo, saw a few hares, a buzzard or two and several pheasants! Altogether, a pleasant walk, with good company and chatter.
