Hikers - Baslow/Calver circular, Oct 2025

On 8th October thirteen walkers set off from the Wheatsheaf pub at Baslow for the 6.5 mile circular walk. The weather, once more, was very kind to us.

Walking uphill through Baslow village we then turned onto paths below Curbar Edge. The ER (Elizabeth Regina) tree sculpture was sighted from the path. A coffee stop was made in a field where we enjoyed far reaching views over Derbyshire.

The walk continued through Curbar village then crossed the river Derwent and alongside the picturesque Calver weir. A lunch stop was made before walking into Calver.

Crossing the busy road using the underpass we walked through fields to the country lane which led us back to Baslow where we crossed the old bridge with a stone watchman's hut where locals used to take turns to guard entry to the village.

Returning to the Wheatsheaf we enjoyed a sociable drink together before journeying home.
