One of our newer Interest Groups, Food and Cookery, celebrated the 77th birthday of King Charles III on Friday 14th November with a “Royal” themed home fuddle.
After sampling Queen Elizabeth’s favourite cocktail (Campari and Gin) and some tasty canapes comprising Black Queen Olive Tapenade and Avocado on Bruschetta, members tucked into brown Windsor Soup, a favourite of Queen Victoria and Albert when dining at the eponymous castle. It was accompanied by soda bread, as served to the young Princes William and Harry at the Kensington Palace tea table.

Main courses on offer were Coronation Chicken as devised for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, Coronation Quiche as served at her son’s coronation and King George VI’s favourite Royal Shepherd’s Pie accompanied by King Edward Roast Potatoes and Honey Glazed Carrots.
Finally, after an appropriate pause for digestion, members enjoyed Enrico Deflingher’s Lemon Cream dessert; a dish invented when Prince Charles as Prince of Wales visited the Shetland Islands and ingredients were in short supply.
There was also a Chocolate and Biscuit Cake as favoured by the late Queen Elizabeth II and the inevitable Victoria Sponge.
