This week were heard about the personal experience of selecting and installing an air source heat pump to replace an existing gas boiler. The factors behind selecting a contractor and deciding the size of unit were outlined.
The installation took place over four days, but we were only without heating and hot water for six hours. The contractor had to remove and reinstall a more suitable hot water cylinder and installed additional valves to make the switch over to the air source heat pump easy.
When everything was in place the switch over was made and then the old gas boiler was removed. We have been monitoring energy consumption since and we are saving energy and money, but we will want to see how the system performs over the winter to see if we really save money because the unit cost of electricity used for driving the pump system is much higher than the cost of gas.
