Hikers - Views of Riber and Crich, June 2026

The walk this month was one which had been planned for August 2025, but which had to be postponed due to the extreme heat that day.

The forecast was for showers, and some members were put off, but it was decided that we would still enjoy the walk.

Nine members left the Sherwood Ranger in two cars and parked in the carpark at the Tavern at Tansley.

The walk was initially downhill, but then that changed and we steadily climbed until we had some good views and a coffee stop under a huge tree.

The terrain was varied with some field, road, track and stones! We negotiated a few stiles, some members better than others, a field of white horses, a couple of uneven steep descents and had lunch by a footbridge over the river, where we listened to the cuckoo and a willow warbler.

We had views of Riber Castle and Crich Stand and were able to see the falls at Lumsdale via a slight diversion but are not now able to go very close.

We returned, dry, for a sociable drink at 2.30pm as planned. Although there was some rain, not as bad as at home, we understand!
