Antiques - Pottery from Poland & Germany

After last month’s talk about the local and short lived late 18th century production of Pinxton Porcelain, this month our Antiques Group members turn their attention further afield to Poland and Germany to learn about pottery products from those two countries.

Firstly, there’s the Polish Bolesławiec pottery, known for its durable, hand-stamped stoneware, secondly the Meissen Porcelain factory, near Dresden in Germany, which was the first in Europe to successfully produce true hard-paste porcelain, and finally German "Fat Lava" pottery, which is the popular name for a style of West German art pottery produced primarily during the 1960s and 1970s, characterised by its distinctive thick, textured glazes that mimic the look of molten rock.

Meeting on the third Thursday of the month in a member’s home, the Antiques enthusiasts may not have the knowledge of those experts on the Antiques Roadshow, but they enjoy learning about all kinds of Antique, Vintage and other collectible items.
