This meeting was a glimpse of Namibia, which is a vast country with two major deserts, the Kalahari and Namib deserts, a major open safari area of the Etosha National Park and the dramatic coastal region on Wallis Bay and the Skeleton Coast.

After visiting Joe’s Beerhouse in Windhoek we rushed towards the Namib desert and then on to Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon in USA.

Apart from the sights of the canyon we also saw samples of the Quiver tree gently shaking in the breeze. Then we went onto the Namib desert where we saw wild life and stunning sand dunes, including the largest sand dune in the world, Big Daddy. Whilst many people rush to climb Big Daddy, the author, being much older than the young virile types racing up, conceded as he found the climb very tiring as his feet were sinking 150mm into the sand with every step. He should have tackled it years earlier!

Then we headed North to the Etosha National Park with its diversity of wild animals, and then onto Damaraland with its stunning landscapes and mountainous terrain.

Finally we joined a group on a private train travelling across Namibia to give us a different perspective of travelling through Namibia in luxury.

This was just a quick look see at Nambia and everybody realised what a lot Namibia has to offer the tourist.
